How I stumbled upon a fulfilling line of work

A couple of my good friends in Kathmandu recently started off a website/platform which aims to serve as a career counseling, networking platform for the Nepali youth seeking  guidance regarding various career and academic fields. I wrote this essay in the link below to help and support them in their efforts, talking about my field of work and the path that took me there.

After finishing high school in Kathmandu, I did not want to go on to medical school or engineering school as was customary then and still is, largely. While I knew I wanted to go abroad to study in the United States, I had no concrete idea of what I wanted to study and even less concrete of an idea as to how to go about finding colleges, scholarships etc.  I spent an afternoon back then at a friend’s place who was my classmate. His elder brother had also graduated from the same school as us, a couple of years before us. He had made the same choice and was about to go on to Colgate University for his undergraduate program that fall. Over tea and snacks that afternoon, he gave me incredible advice and guidance on finding and applying to  universities in the United States and resources available which paved the way to me ending up at Grinnell the following year and subsequently to what I am doing  today. I remain eternally grateful to him.  This is also my effort to pay back that debt of gratitude in a small way and support my friends in their vision — which essentially is to be that elder brother or sister figure for the aspiring youth of Nepal.
